Best Of Web Summit 2022
In this HUB Report, we have tried to sum up some of the best talks and filter some of the most interesting start-ups during our visit in Portugal!
"In 10 years, the Web Summit has become one of the leading worldwide tech events for thousands of early stage startups and investors. After a growing success in Dublin, the summit has developed a strong synergy with Portugal after a smart move to Lisbon. The Web Summit and Lisbon have supported each other with impressive results, despite Covid-19 crisis.
With 73.000 attendees from 160 countries (with the exception of China and Asia that were under represented because of Covid-19 and the Ukraine/Russia war impact on flights) this event was able to attract the most renowned speakers and even to get Silicon Valley top startups and VC’s to join. The strength of the Web Summit is its weakness too: too many early stage startups (with no client yet and looking for financing) to filter through, long queue at the entrance and too many topics (from smart health to crypto, from marketing to food), with too short keynotes to really get detailed insights... But it remains still a great opportunity to feel the amazing energy from the tech planet despite inflation, Covid-19, the Russian war,...
Lisbon and Portugal are definitely the other winners. The local tech ecosystem has boomed in the past 5 years. Worldwide start-ups have discovered a great location (food, cost of living, lifestyle, skilled workforce) to locate in the EU (after leaving the UK because of the Brexit). The local and national governments have understood the great benefit of attracting talents, investments, employment, R&D to boost the local economy. They have learn how to adapt local regulation to become a new hub for tech on an international level. Tech is the new oil, talents & VCs the new tankers...
